I developed lactose intolerance several years ago, the only one in my family. The intolerance was a bit strange, I could have yogurt and hard cheese, but butter and heavy cream would make me feel poisoned. Lactaid was poorly effective but the only option when I was in serious pain. Over time, the intolerance got worse, things I could eat were becoming off limits (like ice cream). I tried bactose but for the first month was too nervous to really "test" it. After the second month I took the plunge and tried eating several meals that had lactose I knew I couldn't tolerate. I had zero symptoms. I didn't take any lactaid. I can only conclude that both the engineered lactobacilli are effective and the recommended dosing strategy is (easy and) effective. I will stay on the subscription for the foreseeable future.
